Black and White Printed Images, Sketchbook cutouts, glue
12 in. x 8 in.

Palimpsketched is a collage diptych I made in Mixed Media with Alexandra Davis. The assignment was simply to make a collage using any materials on a given matteboard containing a printed image. I chose to cut out drawings I made in my sketchbook to pair with imagery found in printed religious works given to us by Davis. Growing up in a Christian household, faith was always something I was told to keep close to my heart. However, after not taking it seriously at a young age, my present understanding of the belief system is very casual and flawed. Because of this, I tend to imagine the stories told from the Bible my way rather than how it was really told. The resulting two collages depict the mourning of Jesus Christ as well as the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. While the photos for the backgrounds are not accurate to their respective stories, they closely resemble what comes to my mind when I imagine the setting many stories from the Bible took place.
