Kill Bill Poster  SeriesDecember 13th-17th, 2024

The Kill Bill Poster Series was a project assigned by Christopher Swift, with the main objective being to create media that can exist across multiple formats while also familiarizing students with certain graphical effects, such as CMYK halftone colorization. Our task was to choose one film to pull images from for a poster series. These posters would then take on many different forms, so the images chosen must be versatile and dynamic. I chose Kill Bill Volume:1 because of the abundance of striking shots and action scenes, high contrast between The Bride and her surroundings, and iconic use of bright yellow, red, and Impact font, making my posters recognizable still from a distance.

Initially, this part of the assignment was to make a transparent poster that would be taped together and put up on a window so that viewers can see the full image. Using CMYK layers as well as a fifth layer for spot colors and additional text, this effect is accomplished. However, after seeing and feeling the printed layers, I felt that this format was too limiting, as it couldn’t showcase the individual layers that come together to make the full image. As a result, I chose to instead bind the layers together using spiral binding. This way, viewers can flip through each layer, seeing the different colors that together make the full image.

Kill Bill AR Poster ExperienceDecember 16th, 2025
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Aero (Beta)

For the final piece of the Kill Bill Poster Series, I created an AR experience in Adobe Aero (Beta). Viewers can scan the QR code to launch Aero on their mobile device without needing to download the app, and the poster will automatically load. After starting the project, the viewer will have to scan the area around them for flat surfaces. After the area is sufficiently scanned, the viewer then places an anchor point from which the poster will be situated. The poster is animated in a way that resembles the shuffling of cards, displaying the different colored layers that come together to create the full poster. Viewers can stand still or walk around to see the poster from different angles. After the poster finishes shuffling, the layers will revolve around the anchor point. Finally, a YouTube video will automatically start, showcasing the exact scene from which the image in the poster is taken. I chose this method of display so that viewers can see how the different colored layers exist on their own, interact with each other, and exist in a space that cannot be replicated with the physical printed version of the poster.
